Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA)

It is the Computer Display standard that was introduced by IBM in September 1984.This display standard is between CGA and VGA in terms of color and space resolution. Some main Features of this video standard are as follows:

a) EGA can generate display of 16 simultaneous colors from a palette of 64 at a resolution of up to 640×350 pixels.

b) EGA card has a max. Of 128K video memory and fits into RAM just above 640K limit.

c) Palette mechanism in the 640×350 high-resolution mode can assign a unique RGB color code to each of 16 colors.

d) EGA palette provides the facility to use 16 CGA colors simultaneously. It allows substitution of each of these colors with any one from a total of 64 colors.


e) It Support all CGA function but it is not 100% hardware compatible with CGA.

f) EGA make use of 9 pin D Shape female connector which is very similar to CGA. Pin out details are As Follows:
